In keeping you up to speed, “prejuvination” is a hot topic right now! Break it down with us. The combo­-word is derived from “prevention” and “rejuvenation.” Staving off signs of aging, rather than trying to treat deep lines, wrinkles, and dull skin tone is easier to keep that youthful appearance. Let’s break down a few ways to prevent signs of aging with the goal to maintain a youthful glow.

Preventative Botox: most people wait until they start to see wrinkles before they seek botox treatment, but preventative treatment uses botox to treat wrinkles before they emerge. By injecting the muscles that typically cause wrinkles around the mouth, eyes, and eyebrows with botox before they start to develop wrinkles, you are essentially preventing them before they happen. 

The botox slows down the use of those muscles, preventing lines from developing (or at least delaying the development of the lines). One of the most common places for preventative botox is to the forehead and Glabellar area. Preventative botox can prevent deep lines, which can make you look older and tired and are harder to treat once they develop.

Routine and customized skin care: tanning beds are out, SPF is in. Sun protection is huge when it comes to preventing early signs of aging. Establish a skincare routine early on. A gentle cleanser at night followed by moisturizer and retinoid is the best line of defense. Start the day to include antioxidant and vitamin-rich skin care products followed by a daily SPF. If you have a lot of sun damage or acne scars, microdermabrasion, light peels, or laser treatments may help.
