Most breast reconstructions are due to mastectomy.  A reconstructed breast does not have the sensations of a natural breast.  However, proper surgery does give a result that looks like a breast, and most women who have the surgery are glad they did.

The type of reconstruction surgery depends on your body type, age, and cancer treatment.  Breast reconstruction takes more than one surgery.  Other steps may include:

• Changing the shape or size of the reconstructed breast
• Adding a nipple for true cosmetics
• Operating on the opposite breast to achieve symmetry
• Fat grafting for Total breast reconstruction or for additional contouring
