We asked our skin specialist, Brittany Miller, a few questions about skin care offered at the Center for Plastic Surgery. Here is what she had to say!

DO YOU SELL OBAGI?

“OBAGI’s great. I like how they have it set up into different systems. You have that Nu-Derm system for the aging face, the CLENZIderm system for more acne-prone skin, and you can really customize them… take bits and pieces out of each one for what you like. OBAGI has been here since I’ve been here, and those people who are on it and stay on it, they love it, so we love it because it really works.”

“Occasionally you get someone who really can’t tolerate the OBAGI. Maybe they’re just a little sensitive or if they’re on the Nu-Derm system, they can’t quite do that six-step regimen.”

WHAT IS PHYTOMER?

“We also have the Phytomer which is totally different than OBAGI, where OBAGI is very chemical-based and acid-based to really create that change, Phytomer is all natural, so they do have some lines with active ingredients. They’re called biotechnologies that are patented just for Phytomer, but they are all complex sugars that are byproducts from certain algaes and bacterias or seaweeds or something, or extracts out of the sea life plants, different things like that.”

“Someone who maybe can’t tolerate OBAGI, the Phytomer is a much nicer skincare line for them.”

WHAT OTHER SKIN CARE PRODUCTS DO YOU SELL?

“We have skinbetter science as well. What I really like about skinbetter is that all their products, it’s just a product that you can add to whatever you’re already doing, so you really can customize what you’re using. Literally, I use OBAGI, Phytomer and skinbetter, and just depending on what’s going on with my skin at that moment will determine what I’m going to use, so I do like a certain cleanser versus the other one, but I think we all have those personal preferences.”

CAN I MIX AND MATCH PRODUCTS?

“Definitely. OBAGI works great. It’s proven. It’s been around forever. I know people who just swear by it, and then those who have not been able to tolerate it, they’ve tried the Phytomer and really enjoyed that, so I really think there’s something for everybody. You can customize it to what best fits your life because our skin changes.”

“You know, sometimes when you’re on a product for so long, all of a sudden one day your skin will stop responding. It’s not because the product is bad. It’s just that we’ve kind of stripped our skin and it’s just not active anymore, and you kind of need to switch it up every once in a while. You can always go back.”

WHAT IS A SIMPLE TIP FOR KEEPING SKIN CLEAN AND BLEMISH FREE?

“It’s definitely important to keep the face clean and to moisturize. Nighttime is huge. Nighttime seems to be the time a lot of women skip, whether they’re too tired, it’s late, whatever, that is the most important time to do it, so we’ve got a couple of products that I love for that. Phytomer has a Rosee Visage, I call it the lazy girl’s cleaners because it’s technically a toner, but it does a great job cleansing, so you can just take a little pad and wipe really quick, just one step and done. Yeah, maybe you’re not super-duper clean, but a lot better than going to bed with the makeup on.”
