How does your Home Skin Care Compare?

Does the staggering number of bottles with perfect skin claims overwhelm you?

We are here to help break down the “must haves” for every at home skin care routine. First it is important to determine the type of skin you have. Is your skin dry, oily, or combination? If you notice dry or flaky patches you may have dry skin or perhaps you notice some shiny spots on your face and that would indicate oily skin. It is also possible that you have areas of both dry and oily and in that case you would claim combination.

1. Start with a Cleanser

Daily cleansing of makeup, dirt, and oil should be a top priority in keeping your skin looking and feeling fresh.

2. Easy Exfoliation

Exfoliation a skin-care technique where you remove dead cells from the top layer of your skin. There are two types of exfoliation: mechanical and chemical. Mechanical involves using a hard substance to manually remove dead skin cells. Chemical exfoliation uses acids or enzymes to remove dead skin cells. Exfoliation improves the appearance of you skin, unclogs pores, helps fade ages spots by removing pigment-containing skin cells, and improves collagen production among other benefits.

3. Retinoids for your Skin Type

Retinols range from .01-1%. Low strength retinol is .01-.03% and is recommended for those with sensitive skin or those who have not used retinol in the past. Medium strength is a good choice for those with uneven skin tone and/or loss of firmness. .03-3% is thought to be a moderate retinol product. High strength retinol is termed .3-1% and is recommended for those with deep wrinkles and pronounced uneven skin tone.

4. Moisturizing Musts

Everyone can benefit from using moisturizer, whether you have dry or oily skin. For people with dry skin, a good moisturizer can help you get rid of cracks and flakes. And though people with oily skin may tend to avoid moisturizers, this can actually backfire. Because if you don’t use a moisturizer, your skin will try to overcompensate for missing moisture by producing even more oil

5. Make Sunscreen a Staple

Wearing sunscreen is one of the best — and easiest — ways to protect your skin’s appearance and health at any age. Used regularly, sunscreen helps prevent sunburn, skin cancer and premature aging.
